Sometimes, keeping up with every dietary requirement can prove to be quite tough. We cater for hundreds of people on a daily basis and know the ins and outs of all dietary needs and how to meet them, so we thought we’d share!
We have put together a quick, easy to read guide to the dietary needs we come across and cater for every day.
Coeliac disease – this is a disease in which the intestines are hyper sensitive to gluten which leads to a difficulty in digesting food. Gluten is found in foods such as; wheat, rye, couscous or any other food that contains flour. People with this allergy avoid any foods that contain gluten.
Vegetarianism – A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat. Generally speaking, a vegetarian diet is a diet of nuts, grains, vegetables, pulses and fruits. Other types of vegetarianism include lacto-vegetarians who don’t eat eggs, and ovo-vegetarians who eat eggs but avoid other dairy products.
Veganism – a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing and any other purpose. Vegan recipes exclude all products taken from animals.
Lactose intolerance – a common digestive problem where the body is unable to digest a type of sugar mainly found in milk and dairy products, called lactose.
Diabetes – this is a condition in which the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood is too high. Diabetes is split into type 1 and type 2 diabetes. No foods are excluded or restricted for diabetes sufferers although a healthy and balanced diet is key. Generally, meals should be low in fats and sugars and richer in fruits and vegetables.
